Engineered to safely remove rainwater from floating roofs, these systems prevent roof overloading, product contamination, and structural damage. Designed for flexibility and durability, they ensure continuous drainage under varying tank conditions.
Reliable drainage solutions for external floating roof tanks.
Prime Tank Systems designs and supplies engineered roof drain systems for external floating roof tanks, ensuring efficient and safe removal of rainwater from the tank roof surface, in accordance with API and relevant international standards.
Floating roofs must be drained effectively to prevent excessive water accumulation, which can lead to operational instability, roof tilting, or even sinking. Our systems are designed to meet site-specific rainfall data, tank geometry, and operational requirements.
System Types
We offer two main categories of drain systems:
-
Pipe Drain Systems
Rigid pipe-based drainage using articulated joints, suitable for larger tanks and high-flow conditions. -
Hose Drain Systems
Flexible, corrosion-resistant hoses ideal for tanks with smaller diameters or complex internal geometry.
Both options can be supplied with floating roof sump valves to optimise inlet control and minimise blockage risks.
Design Features
-
Minimum Sizes:
-
3″ for tanks ≤ 36 m diameter
-
4″ for tanks > 36 m diameter
-
Emergency drains (for double-deck roofs): ≥ 4″, open-ended, minimum 3 per tank
-
-
Double-Deck Roofs:
Configurable with central or multiple sump systems based on tank diameter and rainfall intensity. -
Single-Deck Roofs:
Require sump valves and screened inlets to prevent debris blockage. -
Emergency Drains (Double-Deck only):
Prevents roof submersion during extreme rainfall. Designed with slit fabric seals to reduce product exposure while allowing water flow. -
Materials & Durability:
All systems are fabricated from Schedule 80 pipe or heavier, with corrosion resistance appropriate for stored product type. Components are designed to withstand mechanical loading and extreme weather, including freeze protection.
Compliance & Reliability
Our drain systems are engineered in full compliance with API 650/653 and international safety norms. We ensure:
-
No floating or kinking
-
No interference with tank internals
-
No risk of siphon-type or hose collapse
-
Guided (not fixed) pipe segments to accommodate thermal movement and plate flexing
Prime Tank Systems roof drains deliver long-term reliability, efficient water evacuation, and operational safety for every tank site.
Drainage Reliability
Without an effective drainage system, accumulated rainwater on floating roofs can lead to excessive weight, mechanical failure, or even roof sinking. This increases the risk of product contamination, corrosion, and operational downtime.
Our roof drain systems are engineered to safely and efficiently channel rainwater away from the floating roof to prevent water buildup. With flexible or articulated piping and anti-siphon features, the system ensures continuous drainage without interrupting tank operations.
