Internal floating roofs are engineered decks that float directly on the product surface inside storage tanks, minimizing vapor emissions and product losses. Designed for compliance with API standards, they enhance safety, reduce environmental impact, and are ideal for petroleum and chemical storage applications.
At Prime Tank Systems, we combine decades of engineering experience with continuous innovation to reduce emissions from Above Ground Storage Tanks (ASTs). Our internal floating roofs (IFRs) are designed in full compliance with international standards and are optimized for both new construction and retrofit projects.
An internal floating roof tank (IFRT) features a fixed external roof and a floating internal deck that sits either directly on the product (contact-type) or slightly above the surface supported by pontoons (non-contact type), in accordance with standards such as AP-42 Section 7.1.
We offer a complete range of tailor-made IFR solutions:
Contact-Type IFRs
These decks float directly on the stored product and are ideal for maximum vapor suppression.
-
P-Hexa™
Hexagonal aluminum honeycomb panel system – lightweight, corrosion-resistant, and high-strength. -
P-BoxA™ / P-BoxS™
Aluminum or stainless steel box-panel construction – durable and easy to maintain. -
P-PanA™ / P-PanS™
Traditional pan-style decks in aluminum or stainless steel – available with or without pontoons.
Non-Contact-Type IFRs
These decks are supported above the liquid surface by pontoons, minimizing product contact while ensuring stability.
-
P-Float™ Series
Available in 500 / 750 / 1000 mm pontoon diameters, constructed in:-
Aluminum (P-FloatAL)
-
Stainless Steel (P-FloatSS)
-
Hybrid (P-FloatHY)
-
These decks feature a structural frame supporting a rolled metal sheet surface joined with clamping bars for strength and rigidity. Seams may include polymeric gaskets for enhanced sealing performance.
Prime internal floating roofs are engineered for long-term performance, low maintenance, and efficient emission control—supporting environmental compliance without compromising on tank capacity or operational reliability.
Operational Insight
Internal floating roofs are designed to float directly on the liquid surface within storage tanks, significantly reducing vapor space and minimizing product evaporation losses and emissions.
Prime Tank Systems offers aluminum and hybrid internal floating roofs. Aluminum IFRs are lightweight and corrosion-resistant, while hybrid models combine aluminum structure with polymeric decks for specific operational requirements.
By reducing flammable vapor accumulation and eliminating the need for roof columns, IFRs lower explosion risks, minimize maintenance needs, and comply with API 650 Appendix H and international emission standards.
